About the Cafe!

Owner & Baker

Meet Addy!

There’s a new face in a familiar place on Bryant’s Main Street. Adelaide Kirst opened Kirst Confections & Cafe in early November. She recently purchased the Fairchild Beans & Creamery (aka Fairchild Drug) building from Dale and Jolene Beld.

Originally from Pennsylvania by the way of Colorado, Addy and her parents, Chris and Nicole, and sister Elly, moved to DeSmet about a year ago. She was an education major at SDSU when she learned that Fairchild’s was for sale, an opportunity she saw as too good to pass up.

Before long she was pursuing her dream of opening a bakery, a passion she’s had since she was a little girl. Walking into the establishment also reminded her of the little coffee shops she and her family would frequent in Pennsylvania and Colorado and she felt at home.

Addy is a self-taught baker. French pastries are what she really likes to create but she’s just as happy making the regular danishes, rolls and other pastry items as well. She makes everything from scratch – even the yogurt she serves on the breakfast menu. She also provides gluten-free items.

Kirst Confections & Cafe is open 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Both breakfast and lunch are limited menus and not the usual short-order fare.

Breakfast items include the homemade yogurt, parfaits, pancakes, crepes and an egg dish. Lunch items are soups and hot sandwiches, such as the burger hoagie. There’s always something in the bakery to please the sweet tooth in addition to ice cream.

She hopes to have a handmade candy selection in the near future as well. The specialty and gourmet coffee selection is still available. Addy is supplying her customers with her favorite coffee from Colorado.

So, whether it’s breakfast or lunch, a treat or coffee you want or just to see a smile filled with sunshine, stop by the Kirst Confection & Cafe on the north side of Main Street in Bryant. It’s all good.

TESTIMONIALS

Feeling the Love!

Best lemon blueberry muffins anywhere! Friendly staff, clean.

Absolutely darling.
Went on a little date with my husband for lunch & had gluten free grilled cheese with potato soup & it was fantastic. I ordered a loaf of gluten free bread, as Addie said she bakes every day! She’s one of the kindest human beings I’ve ever crossed paths with. Honestly, you can’t leave grumpy here 😁
(Apparently you need to mark down Saturday mornings as “Kirst Cafe” – I’ve been told the [gluten free] donuts are hands down the best in the area. They serve them Saturday mornings. We’ll be back 😉)

Amazing food, and amazing people running it! Everything can be made Gluten-free as well, which is hard to find in this area. Addie said she’s been baking forever- and you can tell, it was delicious! She’s a young entrepreneur who is jumping into her dream of running a bakery (there’s Gluten free goodies, home cooked meals, and coffee shop/ ice cream all in one) and your food is delivered with genuine kindness. I feel happy to spend $ at a place like this!
